1999 marked an important year in history - the world awaits the consequences of the Y2K bug, war erupts in Kosovo and the Blair Witch project becomes the most profitable film ever. September 28th, 1999 also marked an important day in music history with THE GET UP KIDS landmark release, Something to Write Home About... "It’s original, powerful, aggressive, heartfelt... it is simply the greatest pop punk album ever written." – Sputnik Music add a comment | add a media | flag

Here come THE AQUABATS! The first all-crime fighting all-surfing rock supergroup in history! On their quest to right wrongs, destroy boredom and seek justice for all! Especially the kids! add a comment | add a media | flag
So why do THE AQUABATS wear costumes? Their audiences wanted to know. Raised by a television generation and out to entertain themselves first, answers such as “We're superheroes from a distant island called Aquabania,” sarcastically spilled from the mouths of band members. They introduced themselves with outrageous names such as MC Bat Commander, Chainsaw, and Crash McLarson. It all stuck. It stuck is an understatement. Their fun, loopy energy was infectious. Instead of being self-indulgent and mocking their fans for liking them, they made room for each and every fan, regardless. Kids swarmed their shows in DIY costumes with such self-anointed monikers as: Churro Man, Cupcake, Afro Bat, Exact Change Man, Chicken Bat, AC Bubba Master and more. |

The EAGLES OF DEATH METAL fulfill the checklist of rock-star awesomeness like few other bands: 1) each member has a bad-ass nickname; 2) they rock an open-D tuning; 3) they’re homies with Dave Grohl and Jack Black; and 4) they trade in bourbon-soaked, denim-clad filthy rock’n’roll. add a comment | add a media | flag
The two messiah’s of Rock and Roll Josh "Baby Duck" Homme (QOTSA) and Jesse "Boots Electric" Hughes produced their mind-blowing debut, Peace, Love, Death Metal in 2004. With its pastel cover and baby-pink vinyl it was saturated with some serious blues riffs, foot-stomping drums, and everything in between. |

Humility, refinement and dignity aren't words usually employed when describing the commercial success of a band. Yet, on these strengths, THE WEAKERTHANS first full-length Fallow spent 10 weeks anchored on the CMJ charts, landed them Album of the Year from Perimeter Magazine, and was named one of the 10 best albums of 1998 by CBC National Radio. add a comment | add a media | flag
THE WEAKERTHANS sophomore effort, Left And Leaving, truly displays the band's maturity. Musically, it's more distinct than its predecessor; you can hear they made the record they wanted to make. In 2003 and nearly three years in the making, Reconstruction Site incorporates the best moments of the band's previous two releases, it offers a clear blueprint for future efforts, built on Samson's instinctual mingling of liberal-arts smarts, poignant sketches of perceptive reflection, and a melodic infrastructure of pop and rock gestures. It is quite simply “an outstanding piece of work - literate, catchy, and emotional.” – |

Firmly rooted in New York hardcore, GLASSJAW's style bends and breaks with diverse sounds that crush together experimental rock, afro-beat, screamo, rapcore/nu-metal, hardcore punk, progressive and psychedelic rock. With their debut album 'Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence' their razor sharp riffs and visceral vocals were put together so uniquely to anything else that was being done at the time, they practically created their own genre and made them impossible to ignore - or get out of your head. add a comment | add a media | flag

Paramore formed in Franklin, Tennessee in 2004 but it was their breakout sophomore effort in 2007, Riot!, that truly introduced the band to a new legion of fans. As they embarked on the most successful year of their career, there seemed to be no limit as to what they could accomplish. RIOT! went on to sell over 2 million albums and the group was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008 for “Best New Artist”. add a comment | add a media | flag

he ability to evolve and push boundaries has never been more important than it is now. While the mainstream becomes safer, the dynamic, genre-bending acts are driven underground, to be discovered by a whole new generation of music fans not content with the identikit bands pushed at them through the major media. It is this hallowed place that A DAY TO REMEMBER has not-so-subtly been taking over, from stereos to mosh pits across the world. While the music industry scrambles to discover the next big thing, A DAY TO REMEMBER has been becoming it, showing that with the right amount of hard work, strong songs, an unfaltering self-belief, and that indefinable spark of something really special, anything is possible. add a comment | add a media | flag

11 years after famously calling it a day in April 1998, Faith No More have confirmed that they are re-forming, and will headline Soundwave this summer. add a comment | add a media | flag
A favourite of Metallica and Guns ‘N’ Roses, Faith No More are largely responsible for the rap/rock crossover blueprint and for influencing many of the nu-metal bands of the 90s, including Linkin Park, Korn and Limp Bizkit. The vocal style of Mike Patton alone has spawned many copycats with his range easily moving between scattergun metal vocals to soaring operatic. Fusing a wide range of musical styles in their trademark schizophrenic fashion, from heavy metal, funk, punk, jazz and thrash metal, their music has defined a generation. |

Few bands can match the level of fan devotion heaped upon My Chemical Romance - and rightly so, as they have truly earned their status as one of the most exciting bands of this generation. The fact that the devotion is returned in equal measure by the band makes it even more of a phenomenon |

JANES ADDICTION formed in the late eighties led by the flamboyant Perry Farrell, the band stood out as an incomparable force blending elements of art rock, punk, metal, funk and glamour into an ambitious musical juxtaposition of sublime beauty and utter decadence. add a comment | add a media | flag
Early performances gained the band a reputation for legendary live shows and many still regard those first-run Jane's concerts as almost religious experiences. In the seventeen years since the original line-up's last performance, there has been an ebb and flow of band formations and side projects until... In April 2008, Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Eric Avery reformed to play again. |

After 18 years AFI have cultivated one of the most passionate followings on the planet. It was in 2003 that the band catapulted into arena status off the back of Sing The Sorrow, acclaimed as a genuine masterpiece by fans and critics alike... “Sing The Sorrow soars with the kind of melodies hit singles are made of, yet it somehow persists with AFI's esoteric darkness.” – Alternative Press add a comment | add a media | flag
Live, the band is legendary for their high impact, charismatic and energetic shows, which has moved Spin magazine to name them one of the 25 greatest live acts of all time.. AFI will now take their explosive live performance to Soundwave 2010. |

Forming in 1991, the purveyors of ‘Love Metal’ and masters of dark atmospheric music, HIM, re-defined the gothic rock/metal movement completely and no one comes close to their heavy, ethereal sounds. They have enjoyed success across the globe for their unique style of hard rock and heavy metal with melodic and gothic undertones, driven by lyrics that spin tales of fatalistic love and depression. add a comment | add a media | flag

There's no such thing as a band born to greatness. To succeed in the world of music there's a whole energy-sapping storm of hard work to plough through. Florida's TRIVIUM has surely earned the major contender status that has been afforded them by their legion of adoring fans and the international media. add a comment | add a media | flag
Their 2005 Sophomore release, Ascendancy, was a bold and dynamic statement of intent that confirmed the potency of TRIVIUM’s precocious talents and charisma. Kerrang! declared it “the most skull-peeling collection of pulverising metal grooves and fretboard annihilation you'll hear in a long time.” |
